Infrared Thermography Companies: Three of the Giants in the Game

What’s happening family? This is Sam coming to you again today to discuss some of the giants in the world of thermal. According to the current literature being produced in the infrared landscape, the thermal market is anticipated to grow in excess two billion dollars US over the next several years. One of the seminal events that has fueled and continues to fuel the demand for research and development in this field has been the current global pandemic.

Stakeholder and end users from many industries and regions including: transportation, government, medical, big business, and more are integrating thermal capabilities in their operations as a preventative and safety measure. For example, LAX airport in Los Angeles, California, which is one of the airports with the most traffic in the world, are using cameras that detect body heat along with thermal thermometers to detect whether passengers are running a fever. There are many other examples ranging from thermal cameras at the entrance of government buildings to local churches.

In this rapidly growing market, infrared thermography companies such as FLIR, SEEK THERMAL, and HTI are giants in the industry with a major presence.

Flir Systems Inc.

Flir Systems Incorporated was Founded in 1978 with the objective of providing high quality low cost thermal imaging services and products. Flir began in the commercial markets delivering high quality hand held products that detected thermal temperature anomalies and for laboratory applications. Then, towards the end of the 1980s Flir picked up the pace acquiring companies such as: Hughes Aircraft Company, Agema, Inframetrics, and Indigo Systems to form the juggernaut company that exists today.

SEEK Thermal

Seek Thermal is another heavy weight contender founded in 2012 by Bill Parrish and Tim Fitzgibbons both PHDs in electrical engineering and entrepreneurs who successfully sold two thermal businesses. One of their businesses named Indigo Systems was acquired by Flir in 2003. The vision of the founders is to provide quality thermal products to the masses and Seek has several top selling products on the online mega store Amazon.

HTI aka Dongguan Xintai Instrument Co. Ltd

HTI is an Eastern giant that focuses primarily in the thermal imagery world. HTI was founded in June 2009 in South China’s manufacturing center of Dongguan. HTI produces professional quality 320×240 pixel resolution cameras at a faction of the price of competitors such as Flir. In fact, the HT-19 hand held professional grade camera sells for only a few hundred dollars.

At this point there is not strong indicators that HTI is competing in the skin temperature camera reading space. However, HTI does produce thermal thermometers.
